History of The Association
The Cycling Association of Tanzania (CAT) popularly known as CHABATA in Swahili (Chama cha Baiskeli Tanzania) is a National cycling body registered in United Republic of Tanzania (Governmental Parastatal) as per provisions of the National Sports Council of Tanzania Act, 1967. CAT was registered on 12, November, 1973, Registration number NSC: 460.
Among many objectives of CAT are:,Promoting cycling sports in all regions of Tanzania. Organizing the National Cycling Championship for all disciplines, of which is the sole holder and owner. Organizing rides and race sports for local and international games such as All African Games, Inter Cities, Olympic and that of the Commonwealth.
Collaborating with National and International Olympic committees, for the cycling sports respect. CAT is a National wide authority on all cycling game and races and the controller of all cycling event organizers in the country.

We are the driving force behind the National Cycling Championships – the pinnacle of competitive cycling in Tanzania.We also organize regional challenges across the country, providing opportunities for cyclists of all skill levels to participate and showcase their talents closer to home.
The future of cycling in Tanzania lies with its youth. We actively develop and implement programs designed to nurture young cycling talent. This includes providing training opportunities, mentorship, and access to resources to help them reach their full potential.
ollaboration is key to success. We work closely with national and international cycling organizations to share knowledge, expertise, and best practices. This fosters a more robust cycling ecosystem and positions Tanzania for further growth.
A safe cycling environment is paramount. We promote cycling safety through educational initiatives and by advocating for improved cycling infrastructure. This ensures a positive experience for everyone, encouraging more people to embrace cycling.
Association Ethics
Rides & Organization
CAT organizes rides and races in accordance to its approved calendar. The participants to these events are the cycling clubs from regions of Tanzania as well as the independent cyclists.
However CAT had adopted a new cycling structure since last two years. It has divided the country into six territorial zones for championship competition which are known as zonal cycling challenges. The move is geared to stimulate the games ultimately create more competitive finale at the National Cycling Championship.
Currently, the Association is a sole holder and owner of zonal challenges and National Cycling Championships.
CAT is a developing sport body which needs support to meet its objectives. Therefore, CAT with partnership with committed sponsors; and other partners being domestic and international can meet its objective and make these events successful.
